Joe Kaluza is the former KFC manager who was paralyzed in a robbery in March 2008. Together, the community has banded together to build him a new, handicapped-accessible home so he can achieve the highest possible quality of life.
Once the home is built, Joe will be able to move from room to room, do more things for himself and once again tuck his daughter into bed at night. The family has been able to raise $48,000 so far, but the equipment alone is expected to run about $57,000.
Community business leaders have contributed to the project, including Donny Murphy of Donnell Ford, John Morvay of the Morvay Financial Group, Joe Reinthaler of Reinthaler's Auto Village, Sam Pitzulo, Tom Perenzino of Bernard Daniels Lumber, Jim Rach of CR Welding Supplies and Steve Botts of Mark Thomas Ford.
21 News live reporter Mike Case will periodically check in on the project, which is set to break ground on Wednesday, September 30 and be ready for Joe to move in by December.
