Police work to reclaim Warren with raids

Six houses were raided in Warren on Wednesday in a collaborative effort featuring more than 100 police officers from 12 different agencies.

Operation Reclamation is the name of the effort to take back Warren, which has seen a rise in crime since layoffs have left the police force with diminished manpower.

Chief Tim Bowers said the city will not be a safe haven for drug dealers and other criminals.

"We want to send a message here to all the criminals that there's no boundaries. They know no boundaries and neither do we. Just because you come in the city of Warren we've got less manpower than we'd like doesn't mean this type of activity can't go on," Bowers said.

Police confiscated more than 600 packages of heroin with an estimated street value of more than $15,000, 100 Ecstasy pills worth about $3,000 and several firearms.

Arrested in the warrants were Donald P. Miner, 53, Derrick D. Peete, 19, Vermont Ja-mel Reed, 28, Jay Brian Kurey, 55, Diane A. Post, 23, Drew Leland Reid, 57, David L. Reid, 61, Reginald E. Morris, 19, Andre L. Furlow, 33, who were all charged with trafficking in drugs.

Arrested on warrants were Angelo Jequinn Joyce, Ryan L. Hall, Keairra M. Brown, and Christopher J. Davis.

Also arrested when drugs were discovered during searches were Warren E. Freeman, Estacia L. Martz and Andre T. Haynes.

All of the suspects will be arraigned on Monday.
