House fire in Columbiana claims life of 17-year-old

COLUMBIANA, Ohio - Grief counselors will be on hand at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center Monday to help students deal with the loss of classmate who was killed in a fire over the weekend.

Justin Welshhans died Saturday morning in the fire at 702 West Southern Avenue.

Relatives said Welshhans ran back into the house to save two dogs and did not make it back out.

George Welshhans, Justin's father, was also in the house at the time and was taken to the hospital.

Officials are investigating and have not  determined what caused the fire.

Fred Welshhans, Justin's grandfather, said they will not rebuild the house.

"We built it from the ground up, my boy and I did. And I just see, I don't want to see no more of it. I talked to the insurance company. We're going to tear it down. I don't want to see nothing else there," he said.
