LORDSTOWN, Ohio - The Lordstown built Chevy Cruze bounces back with the best selling month in the car's history.
Whether it was effective advertising played out during the London Olympics or the Chevrolet money-back guarantee that attracted the car buyers, General Motors is celebrating a 10% spike in sales for the month of August, rebounding from a bad month before.
While SUV sales tumbled in a month of rising gas prices, sales of GM's top-selling vehicle, the Chevy Silverado, rose 4%, along with the locally made Chevy Cruze, which saw a record breaking month.
"We always feature the Cruze because it's built in our backyard and it's so popular around here," said Diane Sauer of Diane Sauer Chevrolet. "There was a good lease incentive on it and, actually, just good pricing on the vehicle."
Nationally, the sale of the Cruze was up 19%, selling nearly 26,000 vehicles. The record breaking month beats the previous record by 915 sales and comes on the heals of an announcement made by GM to invest about $200-millon into the Lordstown plant, guaranteeing continued local production for years to come.
