The latest in cell phone technology is making its way across the country. 4G is the fourth generation of wireless and comes down to one thing speed, speed, speed.
Chad McLaughlin with Verizon Wireless says, "It's just faster. So everything you do from browsing the web to downloading music to watching movies and other things on there it's just so much faster."
Cell phone technology has come a long way over the years. 2G brought us digital voice and text messaging. 3G brought us smart phones, applications, and web browsing. And now 4G is bringing speeds up to ten times faster than the 3G network. McLaughlin says, "It's a great convenience to be able to download business files or to be able to watch videos, show videos at a conference or your kids to be able to watch Nickelodeon while you're on a road trip. So the speeds allow you to watch without buffering."
4G isn't just for your cell phone. It also works on your tablets and laptops. Eric Wolford with Sprint says, "We have over a dozen devices you can use off the 4G Network."
Right now 4G service is spotty. Both Verizon and Sprint offer it in many major markets across the country including Cleveland and Pittsburgh but not here in the Valley quite yet. But both companies say its coming.
Anthony Crawford-Kade with Sprint says, "It's in 70 plus markets right now and I can't say exactly how soon it will be here but hopefully soon."
Verizon can't say when their 4G service will be here either but the company plans to have 4G coverage across the country by the end of 2013.
And don't worry if you have a 3G phone or even a regular old cell phone this upgrade in technology won't effect your service.
