Youngstown police officer fired

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Youngstown police officer loses his job after behavior the chief says bordered on criminal.

Back in May, while off duty Aaron Coleman accompanied a friend to collect what the chief says was a drug debt.  During the confrontation Coleman's friend took out a shot gun and a shot was fired.

Coleman did not call police.

The chief says Coleman violated a number of rules and policies including Conduct Unbecoming, Abuse of Position, and Conformance to Laws.

Chief Jimmy Hughes said, "We're not debt collectors for drug dealers or drug users.  And we don't use our badges and our authority to do that."

Coleman can appeal the decision through civil service or the union.
