Seniors celebrate anniversary of Social Security; urge congress to keep its hands of their benefits

WARREN, Ohio - Seniors at the Scope Center in Warren celebrated the 76th anniversary of Social Security.

At that celebration, seniors were urged to tell the super committee in Congress, to keep its hands off Social Security.

If the super committee can't come to an agreement, cuts in domestic programs could happen.

"The domestic spending cuts could include older Americans Act, which in our area helps feed about 800 people a day. We're talking about basic necessities, meals to the homebound, baths, some home care, medical transportation," said Lisa Solley from the Area Agency on Aging.

The congressional plan is expected to be fast tracked for an up or down vote by December 23rd.
