Giant Eagle recalls lettuce over listeria concerns

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio- Giant Eagle is recalling lettuce over listeria concerns.

The Food and Drug Administration informed the store about the presence of listeria after discovering a strain of the bacteria in a routine random sample test of Giant Eagle Farmer's Market 8-ounce package of shredded iceberg lettuce, which is produced by River Ranch Fresh foods.

The company has said it will accept full refunds for the product, which has a sell by date of October 14th 2011.

Listeria has been a major concern after numerous reports of deaths and illnesses related to an outbreak of the bacteria was found in some cantaloupes this year.
