Car - semi accident in Ellsworth sends one to the hospital

ELLSWORTH, Ohio - Traffic was tied up for quite a while in Ellsworth at Route 45 and Palmyra Road when a car and semi-truck collided.

A Stat Med-Evac helicopter took the male driver in the car to St. Elizabeths Hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol tells 21 News that the driver of the car had serious injuries; however the truck driver was not injured.

Authorities say the driver of the car was coming westbound on Palmyra and had briefly stopped at the stop sign, but then for whatever reason pulled in to the path of the semi.

An off duty paramedic was headed to school when she rushed to the aid of the driver in the car.

"He wasn't breathing. So I opened his airways so he could start breathing. Did what I could," said Kimberly Nosek.

Traffic was able to get moving again once the semi was pulled out of a ditch.
