YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown's School Board plans to put a levy on the March ballot, but the good news for voters is it may actually lower their property taxes.
The district is seeking to raise $3.2 million per year over a four year period.
Board members are not yet sure how that will translate into mills due to the recent reevaluation of property taxes.
But they say it is much less compared to the current levy that will expire in 2013, which has been generating five-point-two million dollars per year.
Superintendent, Dr.Connie Hathorn says the administrative end is running "paper thin."
"We don't have a lot of administrators here being paid for out of the general fund. Most are getting paid from grants. If we're going to move this district forward, we have to provide support for those buildings. Put things in place and improve student achievement. That's our number one goal," Hathorn said.
The board approved the levy on a first reading Friday night and then plans to approve it next Tuesday on a second reading.
The deadline to file with the board of elections is December 6th.
