WARREN, Ohio - A tragic 24 hours in Trumbull County, as two people die in two separate accidents within minutes of each other.
On Friday, the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a deadly single car crash just one minute before midnight on Route 82, just west of State Route 11 in Howland.
After going around a bend, a Camaro went off the right side of the road and struck an overhead sign post.
Front seat passenger, 30-year-old Phillip Keagy of Warren died at the scene. The driver of the car is in extremely critical condition and the two backseat passengers, Stefanie Ullom of Warren and Monica Smith of Orwell are in satisfactory condition.
Troopers are waiting on toxicology results and haven't ruled out speed and the rainy weather as potential causes for the crash according to Trumbull County OSP Post Commander Brian Holt. "Certainly on wet roads that is a consideration that the speed could have been a factor, coupled with wet weather conditions," Holt said.
Just 30 minutes later, and less than five miles away from that crash, the State Patrol was called to another deadly accident.
The second accident was at Route 193 and Smith-Stewart Road in Vienna Township. Commander Holt says, "It's a single vehicle and a single occupant was southbound on State Route 193. He drove off the right side of the road and struck the construction equipment."
Thirty-five-year-old Nicholas Lewis of Vienna died on impact.
The construction equipment on the side of the road is part of a sanitary sewer project.
State Police say this is actually the third traffic related death in Trumbull County this week. The two most recent fatal crashes were within a few minutes and few miles of each other. Commander Holt tells 21 News, "This is the first time in my career that we've had two fatalities occur at the same time."
