Records indicate plea deal over Ohio cross-burning

MT. GILEAD, Ohio (AP) - Court records indicate that a man accused of burning a wooden cross bearing a racial slur in the yard of a black Ohio family has reached a plea deal.

A federal complaint alleges the man and a juvenile co-conspirator also wrote "KKK will make you pay'' on the cross burned in Morrow County last March. The suspects are white.

Federal court records show Brandon Rhodes of rural Marengo was charged this week with conspiring to threaten the civil rights of a black juvenile. An attorney for the 20-year-old tells The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/ArFH4x) that earlier state charges of ethnic intimidation and aggravated menacing were dismissed.

Rhodes is due in court March 1. The charge is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

The complaint doesn't name his alleged co-conspirator.
