GIRARD, Ohio - It has been six years since someone murdered Lena Cross and set fire to her Girard home killing her two sons.
Since that time, the grandmother of the children and some volunteers, have worked to turn that evil into good.
At the 6th annual spaghetti dinner fund raiser, Cindy Michael and dozens of volunteers work to cook up good things for kids in the community.
The money raised from the dinner and raffle will be used for a yearly book bag giveaway and more.
"Last year at the book bag giveaway, we gave a way slightly over 400 book bags, cooked a thousand hot dogs and had clowns. The kids have a blast every year. At Christmas time, I bought toys for 23 different children. And throughout the year, I'll get phone calls that they need school clothes, winter coats and stuff like that," Michael said.
About 20 volunteers donate their time to help bring kids happiness.
"Anytime there is a spaghetti dinner, I love cooking. I cook all the time, so we put it go good use. We come out here and cook for 500. We got 1,100 meat balls, 120 pounds of macaroni and five cases of sauce," said volunteer Lou Chine.
The fundraiser has grown each year and this year kids got involved by buying and selling candy to help others.
The fundraiser is all about bringing a smile to the face of a child in loving memory of Lena, Mason, and Christian.
Michael hopes one day someone will provide information to convict their killer. "Please come forward and unburden yourself of what you know and help someone else not to get hurt."
