CANFIELD, Ohio - The issue of possibly fracking under Mill Creek MetroParks came up during the board of park commissioners meeting on Monday.

The topic was not on the agenda, but several residents voiced their concerns over this type of drilling for natural gas.

Board President Bob Durick said a decision had not yet been made by the park commissioners. They are continuing to gather information.

"First of all, I just wanted to ask a question and that is about the 26 slant drilled wells around the outside of the park there where the deeds were sold for the deep drilling rights," asked Susie Biersdorfer, YSU Geology Instructor.

Questions were not answered by the board during the public comments part of the meeting, however Durick spoke with us after about the issue.

"A lot of land around the park has already been committed to oil companies. A lot of the information people need to understand is that this is not our property, these wells are not located on park property," Durick said.

The board's next meeting is April 16th and not April 9th as originally scheduled.
