Valley likely unable to provide shale workforce

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Valley will likely not be able to provide the workforce for the shale industry.

The Dean of the STEM College at Youngstown State University says at this point, they are not producing enough graduates to fill the thousands of positions that are coming to the area.

"We're going to have to really ramp up in order to produce sufficient numbers of workers. The challenge is going to be how many workers we need in which areas and then being able to put those people in place. Most likely, companies are going to have to import workers at least at the initial stages," said Dr, Martin Abraham, Dean YSU STEM College.

Dr. Abraham is a member of the 21 News Shale Team. The shale team is a panel experts we have assembled to discuss all aspects of this complex issue.
