YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - There was a lot to celebrate Monday afternoon in downtown Youngstown as a group of students graduated from the Red Cross Nurse Assistant Training program.

The students have been able to train for free through a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The grant will help train 280 students in Mahoning and Trumbull counties over three years.

So far, students have been surpassing federal standards. More than 90% of the nursing assistants have found jobs upon graduation.

"You're trying to make good arguments for public investments especially to health care job training and to come from an area that has such a high success rate and people who are showing a lot of initiative it's really heartening and we're going to go make that argument so we can continue to fund these programs," said Valley Congressman Tim Ryan.

The Red Cross is seeking a second grant which would allow the program to continue three more years.
