Browns DE Benard feels "blessed" after accident

Updated:

BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Browns defensive end Marcus Benard says he has a renewed appreciation for life and football following a motorcycle crash last October.

Speaking with reporters for the first time since his serious accident, Benard called the event both "traumatic" and "a blessing." Benard said he has fully recovered from his injuries, which included a broken right hand. He has a large scar running from the middle of his hand past his wrist.

Police estimated Benard was thrown over 80 yards after he slammed his motorcycle into a guardrail on Interstate 71. Benard was hospitalized for three days with other unspecified injuries. Benard said he no longer rides a motorcycle and expressed his gratitude to the Browns "for believing in me." The team paid him his entire salary last season.
