WARREN, Ohio - Deadly fires over the past year in Warren have launched the fire department on a new campaign.

The Save-A-Life Smoke Alarm initiative, also known as SALSA, uses donations to buy tamper resistant smoke alarms for at risk homes.

The department is asking that people and businesses adopt families by donating the $45 needed to purchase three fire alarms.

"We recognized the normal smoke alarm programs weren't working. We weren't reaching the people that needed them the most," said Lieutenant Chuck Eggelston.

Firefighters will distribute applications for those in need of smoke detectors. If you would like to donate, contact the Warren Fire Department.
