CIty working to revitalize historic Smokey Hollow

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Construction happening now along Walnut Street in downtown Youngstown is just the beginning of a project to revitalize the historic Smokey Hollow neighborhood.

At a ceremony Tuesday morning, city and state officials broke ground for a new water and sewer system. This groundwork will serve as the basis to build new housing and commercial properties, rebuilding the Smokey Hollow neighborhood into what it once was.

"This was a real good family and neighborhood development back then and hopefully we can get back to that in the next year or so with other development, homes or whatever else we can have built here," said Youngstown Mayor Chuck Sammarone.

A portion of the Smokey Hollow project is estimated to cost $1.5 million and should be completed by this fall.
