YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A boil alert issued for Youngstown and Boardman residents is expected to be in effect until further notice.
The boil alert was issued on Sunday after a major water line break on Volney Road in Mill Creek Park.
Daniel Blakely, Engineering Assistant at the Youngstown Water Department, confirmed that the boil alert affects the south side of Youngstown, the Cornersburg area on the city's west side and residents north of Route 224 in Boardman. It also includes businesses using water from the department, which includes buildings from Market Street to Mill Creek Park.
Blakely said that although an estimated number of residents and businesses affected were not available and that it would be on a "case by case" basis, he believed that the vast majority experienced low pressure instead of a loss of water.
In cases like this, residents would not have to boil water, but Blakely said that if anyone was unsure whether they experienced low water pressure or a complete loss of water, they should boil their water just to be safe.
Tests of the water still need to be sent out today and they expect to have those back Tuesday.
The boil alert remains intact until further notice.
