Protesters line up outside city hall in Youngstown

Posted: Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Protesters are outside of City Hall in Youngstown in support of a woman who says she was assaulted by police.

The New Black Panther Party is expected to be at the rally as well in support of Desiree Johnson, a woman recently convicted of obstructing justice during a traffic stop last year.

Johnson says the traffic stop that resulted in her arrest is the result of retaliation by Lieutenant Kevin Mercer and Officer Patrick Mulligan after she filed an internal affairs complaint against them in 2009.

Johnson had filed the complaint after she said that the police pulled a gun on her son, who was 12-years-old at the time, as he was coming home. Police maintained that they did not pull a gun on the child but the child's dog who did not have a collar or was on a leash and was acting aggressive.
