Water theft an issue in Youngstown

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - New security cameras will be keeping watch on people trying to steal water in Youngstown.

The Board of Control approved the purchase of eight new cameras Thursday morning.

City officials say there have been increasing reports of missing manhole covers and fire hydrant tampering. In addition, some people have been illegally turning on home water supplies after the city cut service.

The cameras will cost upwards of $40,000 and will be paid for by the Water and Wastewater Departments.
