Pa.'s June jobless rate inches up to 7.5 percent - 21 News Now, More Local News for Youngstown, Ohio -

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania's unemployment rose slightly in June to 7.5 percent.
    
The state Department of Labor and Industry said Thursday the rate was 0.1 percent higher than in May and lower than the national rate of 8.2 percent.
    
Officials say June marked the first increase in 11 months.
    
The number of people working or looking for work as summer began increased by 16,000 to nearly 6.5 million people.
    
The department estimates that the number of nonfarm jobs in Pennsylvania increased by 14,600 in June to 5.7 million. Resident employment was up 3,000 to nearly 6 million.
    
Pennsylvania payrolls dipped to less than 5.6 million after the recession began in December 2007. They remain below the 2008 peak of 5.8 million jobs.
