Valley party leaders talk jobs

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - On every campaign stop, President Obama and Mitt Romney attack the others economic plan and tout their own ideas on how to best help the economy grow and help create jobs.

Local party leaders in the Mahoning Valley believe jobs will be one of the defining issues with voters this fall, and which approach they think will put more Americans back to work.

"You can't just talk one without comparing and contrasting what their different views for the country are," said Dave Betras, Mahoning County Democrat Party Chairman.

And those views are starkly different. The Republicans say that Obama believes that government is central to business, but Betras says it's more of a partnership that brings success.

"When you have a partnership between government and the private sector to create jobs that's how V&M got started and kick started, that's how General Motors got rescued and that's how you can move this economy along," Betras said.

County Republican Party Chairman Mark Munroe says Mitt Romney has shown he knows how to create jobs in this economy.

"Not government jobs, not jobs that are temporary taxpayer handouts. They're private sector good paying jobs. That's what this country needs; it needs a new spirit of optimism and new spirit of entrepreneurs. It needs somebody who knows how to create jobs in the private sector", Munroe said.

It's an issue that is guaranteed to dominate the campaign from now until Election Day.
