400 runners hit the trail on Wednesday in Mercer County

MERCER COUNTY, Pennsylvania - Nearly 400 runners hit the trails Wednesday evening in Mercer County.

The Mercer County Trails Association sponsors the Shenango Dam 5-K which is part of a four-race series throughout the year.

Jed Christianson of Greenville took home the title for the men's division, while Cranberry's Lindsey Snyder topped the women's side.

One member says part of the proceeds from the race will help connect abandoned trails in the area.

"We have a multitude of other trails in mercer county that are abandoned that we're trying to link up with one another. We can actually connect our trail to other trail systems and tie into the greater Allegheny Passage which is the one that goes from Pittsburgh to Cumberland," said Kyle Darner with the Mercer County Trails Association.

Some of the money raised will also go towards maintaining and improving the trails. This is the first year for the race.
