135 fugitives turn themselves in with help of state program

Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio -  A state program set up in Trumbull and Columbiana counties designed to help suspects with warrants out for their arrest turn themselves in has provided results.

According to a press release from the office of Attorney General Mike Dewine, 135 people turned themselves in during the week long program which targeted suspects with misdemeanors or low-level felonies.

One person was on Columbiana County's Top Ten Most Wanted list and another traveled from Texas to resolve his warrant of driving without a license.

The program was setup in churches to provide the suspects with a comfortable setting and to help eliminate some level of danger to police officers serving warrants.

The state plans to schedule the event again in the fall.
