Drought affecting food banks

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Half of all counties in the U.S. are now officially declared drought areas and the impact of dry conditions on food crops is reaching beyond the farm.

A number of food banks are starting to see a shrinking supply of fresh produce.

Second Harvest Food Bank is still receiving fresh greens and vegetables, but believes the drought will soon catch up with supply and demand.

"We do know that a lot of the crops have been damaged because of the weather, so we are concerned that we will in the future not be able to distribute as much as we did last year," said Becky Miller from Second Harvest Food Bank.

Miller says any donations from back yard gardens are always welcome at the food bank.
