FORT BRAGG, North Carolina - A court martial trial is set to begin on Monday for a soldier from Mercer County for his alleged role in prompting the suicide of a Chinese-American soldier in Afghanistan.

The trial for Ryan Offut of Greenville is expected to begin at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

Offut is charged with negligent homicide in connection with the death of 19-year-old Private Danny Chen.

Sergeant Adam Holcomb of Youngstown was acquitted of negligent homicide charges, but convicted of maltreatment and assault.

Holcomb was sentenced to 30 days in prison, demoted to specialist and forced to forfeit one month's pay.
