CRAIG BEACH, Ohio - A week after Craig Beach City Council voted to terminate Police Chief Joe Borosky, the decision to uphold their vote now rests in the hands of the council member who was not present at the meeting.

A petition presented to city council members Monday evening showed nearly 20 percent of Craig Beach residents supported council's decision to terminate Police Chief Joe Boroksy.

"We don't feel he is doing justice for the village," said Craig Beach resident David Dragus.

The petition comes on the heels of dash cam video showing Borosky forcefully pulling a woman out of her car for going left of center.

"When I saw that video tape on the news of what he did to that elderly woman I was shocked," said former Craig Beach Mayor Christine Peplow. "I couldn't believe that he wasn't fired the next day."

When council voted to terminate Boroksy last week for excessive force, only five of the six council members were present. Although council voted 3-to-2, under law, at least two-thirds of council needs to agree and that's at least four members. The decision now rests in the hands of Camille Gaia, the absent council member during last week's decision.

"There are some charges against him and I want to see legally what they were," Gaia said. "If there is concrete evidence or evidence that says, 'yes he is guilty,' then he is guilty. If it weighs the other way then he would be not guilty. If he's guilty of course, he is fired."

Gaia will take time to review transcripts from last week's meeting before making his decision.

Boroksy remains on suspension without pay. He was not at Monday's meeting. A message left for his attorney after office hours was not returned.
