Plan in the works to avoid Catholic school students riding WRTA buses to school

Updated:

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A deal is in the works to replace a plan that had some area Catholic students riding WRTA busses to get to school.

Under state law, public school districts are responsible for getting private-school students to school.

Back in June, Austintown Local Schools cut bussing to students attending out-of-district charter schools to save money.

Austintown proposed a plan that would pay for vouchers for students, attending classes at Saint Christine, Ursuline and Molly Kessler, to ride WRTA buses.

A new plan that eliminates the WRTA bus ride is expected to be announced once it's finalized by administrators.
