Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Republican Party officials have announced that Ohio Sen. Rob Portman has been tapped to speak at the upcoming convention.

Party Chairman Reince Priebus announced Thursday that Portman will be among six "headlininers" addressing the nominating convention in Tampa, Fla., Aug. 27-30.

Presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney had considered Portman a possible running mate before choosing Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan.

Other speakers announced Thursday included Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Florida Rep. Connie Mack.

Ohio Gov. John Kasich also has a speaking slot at the convention.

A detailed schedule has not been released.
