Jerry Springer attends Democratic fundraiser

Updated:

BOARDMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Former talk show host Jerry Springer was greeted by members of the Mahoning and Trumbull County Democratic Parties Friday night at Michael Alberini's in Boardman.

He is here as a private citizen helping the party in support of President Obama's re-election.

"I guess if the election were held today Barack Obama would be re-elected, but we can't take that for granted. It's going to be a very close election," Springer said.

Some of the polls taken this past week, like the Purple Poll in the swing states, including Ohio, show Mitt Romney ahead by two percentage points. The Public Policy Institute shows President Obama in the lead by three points. And the Rasmussen Poll puts the candidates at a dead heat 45 to 45 percent.

Springer says this election is crucial now that Mitt Romney has chosen Paul Ryan as his running mate.

"You could be a life-long Republican. You could be a conservative. But there's got to be something in each of us that says, you know what, just to give people like me a tax cut. It is unjust to say that we're going to do away with health care for 30-million Americans," Springer said.

The fundraiser for the Democratic Party supports all of its candidates running for offices.
