YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - While the growing shale Industry may bring difficult news for enrollment at Youngstown State University, their involvement in advanced manufacturing may put them at the forefront of education, training, and research.

Last week it was announced that Youngstown won a national competition making the Valley home to the first national manufacturing institute.

YSU's Dr. Darryl Wallace will lead the university's role in the project, something he says will change the school.

"We are going to be thought of in a different way. We are going to be in people's awareness. It is going to give us the opportunity to do research and attract students that we would have never had access to other wise," Dr. Wallace said.

The institute is estimated to invest 70 million dollars into the Valley in the form of jobs, education and research.
