Youngstown demolishing abandoned homes with help from the Ohio Attorney General

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown is continuing its efforts to demolish abandoned homes and with the support of the Ohio Attorney General the city has taken another step in the process.

A home on High Street was demolished Wednesday morning. The demolition is part of the Attorney General's Moving Ohio Forward Program.

It's a project to restore communities. "The real victims of this mortgage crisis are those that stayed in the neighborhood. They paid their taxes, paid their mortgage, and yet through absolutely no fault of their own are seeing their neighborhood go downhill. Why? Because they live next to house like this," DeWine said.

The project is funded by the national mortgage settlement that was reached earlier this year. Mahoning County received one-point-five million dollars.
