Our of Our Valley's Bravest receives Congressional Gold Medal

PULASKI, Pennsylvania - One of our Valley's Bravest, a World War II veteran living in Pulaski, Pennsylvania, was presented the highest honor awarded by Congress to a civilian.

Local Marines presented Evans Hunter with a Congressional Gold Medal on Friday.

Hunter was one of the first African Americans in the Marine Corps and served as sergeant from 1943 to 1945.

Hunter is a member of the Montford Point Marines who Congress awarded the Congressional Gold Medal back in June for outstanding perseverance and courage that inspired social change for the Marine Corps.

Evans was unable to make the trip for the presentation so one was held Friday morning at Evans' home during his 88th birthday celebration.
