HERMITAGE, Pennsylvania - Labor Day at the Canfield Fair is a traditional summer-ending event. And the same holds true for Buhl Day in Hermitage.
The setting is the beautiful Buhl Farm and each year the many attractions include a classic car show and nostalgic music.
Unlike a fair or festival, Buhl Day doesn't have the big rides and grandstand shows. It's more like a big family-friendly Labor Day picnic with lots of attention on fun for the children.
And this year's fun included a visit by one of Sesame's Street's favorite residents, Elmo. His visit was a part of PNC Banks Growing Up Great program.
"What we do with Growing Up Great is use it for children birth through five years old primarily, and we've developed this relationship with Sesame Street so that we can bring in characters like Elmo to be with our children," said Debbie McMaster of PNC Bank.
Elmo gave out plenty of hugs and posed for a lot of pictures with his young fans.
Another great attraction for the kids is the Sadecky Puppet show, in conjunction with the Performing Arts Council.
They draw big crowds every year and they're phenomenal, they're absolutely amazing," said Vicki Lingner with the Buhl Day Committee.
The puppeteers say their shows are designed to deliver a strong character education message. "We do shows that deal with bullying, respect. The show we're doing today, The Prince and the Pauper, is a traditional tale and is about showing respect to each other," puppeteer Bernie McNally said.
Parents say that after the Buhl Day experience, the little ones are usually ready for an early bedtime.
