YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Two drivers were sent to the hospital on Monday after a crash in the six thousand block of South Avenue.

A witness told police the man driving a Hyundai was traveling south at a high rate of speed when he hit the woman who was turning onto Larkridge in her car.

After hitting the car, the Hyundai mowed over a fire hydrant, flipped over and landed about 100 feet away in a yard.

It took firefighters about 18 minutes to rescue the unconscious man from the wreckage of his car.

"We had an engine returning from a call. They heard the accident from the intersection, made the turn and saw the one car in the middle of the intersection and the other car laying on its side here," said Captain Brian Barber from the Boardman Fire Department.

The man driving the Hyundai was taken to Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. The woman, who had just finished grocery shopping, was also taken to a local hospital.
