SAN JOSE, Costa Rica - Two deaths have been reported after a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake rocked Costa Rica.

One of the fatalities was a man working at a construction site when part of a wall fell on him. The other was a woman who died of a heart attack. The deaths were confirmed by the Red Cross which couldn't confirm local media reports of 22 injuries.

A 2005 Poland High School graduate is currently serving as a missionary in San Jose, Costa Rica. 21 News spoke to her on Skype. She said the quake was quite a scare. "It kind of freaked us out a little bit. Made sure we called our parents, but it took a while the phones and everything were down" said Erin Hawkins.

The earthquake was the biggest to hit Costa Rica since a tremor of the same magnitude hit in 1991. That quake killed 47 people.
