YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Youngstown police are searching for a killer after the bodies of two young people were discovered in a car just before midnight on Tuesday.

Both victims had been shot to death.

The bodies of 19-year-old Keara McCulough and 20-year-old Ryan Slade, both from the city's south side, were discovered inside a car that had rolled behind a home in the 29-hundred block of Benford Lane in Youngstown. That's near the Sharon line.

Authorities say it's possible the victims were shot while driving.

When police arrived they found one of the rear doors to the vehicle open and the back window shot out.

Now, Youngstown police detectives are determined to find out who killed the two young victims and why.

Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley tells 21 News, "It's possible that the shooter may have known these individuals because it's an odd place for people to end up. It's not a high traffic area where random people just come across each other's paths."

The male victim, at just 20-years-old, is no stranger to violence. When he was 15, Slade was shot in the leg. Two years ago, he was shot again in the lower abdomen, and now gun violence has ended his young life.

Detectives say just last month, a home on Cornell Avenue, where Slade had been staying, was shot up. Now they're looking into whether he was involved in an ongoing feud with someone.

"Detectives were unable to; unfortunately, make any progress in that case. So we think it's possible. We're working on that theory, that this could have been something ongoing with Mr. Slade," Chief Foley said.

At this point, detectives believe the female victim may have just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Keara McCulough was a graduate of Chaney High School and currently worked at the VXI Global Solutions call center in downtown Youngstown.

Police say a witness in the neighborhood heard gun shots and then saw a man running from the scene.

Authorities are hoping other members of the community will also step forward if they know the names of anyone who was involved in a dispute with the victims.

"This is our third double murder of the year. The two males killed on McBride in June, and we had a double homicide on Avondale in May. So this is our third double murder, and you know 21 homicides this year is too many for a city our size," Foley says.

Anyone with information that could help solve this crime is encouraged to contact Youngstown police at (330) 747-7911 or Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE. You can remain anonymous. Chief Foley says they just want to get a killer off the streets.
