Steelers S Clark thrives in Polamalu's absence

Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Steelers safety Ryan Clark proved during last week's 27-10 victory over the New York Jets that superstar teammate Polamalu isn't the only guy in the secondary who can make big plays.

Clark had a team-high eight tackles and a handful of big hits as the Steelers shut down the Jets in the second half while Polamalu sat out with a strained right calf.

Polamalu called it the most enjoyable game he's ever watched from the sideline due to the way Clark threw himself all over the field.

Clark, who made the Pro Bowl for the first time in his 11-year career last fall, says he may have received more personal accolades if he played elsewhere but wouldn't trade away the chance to play next to Polamalu.

The Steelers (1-1) play at Oakland (0-2) on Sunday.
