YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A four-year-old was shot in the face on the east side of Youngstown early Friday morning.

Tristian Jackson was shot sometime around 7:30 a.m. at the EAS Apartments on Kendis Circle.

The little boy is in critical but stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The hospital called Youngstown police when the child was brought into the emergency room by a private car.

Detectives are investigating to determine if the child accidentally shot himself with a loaded gun in the home.

The child was talking when he went to the ER to get a cat scan.

"We're trying to figure out how he had access to a semi-automatic pistol. We're not sure if one of the family members had a loaded firearm in the house. The four-year-old then got access to it in the apartment," said Youngstown Police Chief Rod Foley.

Police say in the end, someone in the home could be charged with child endangering if the child got his hands on a loaded gun.

Six others were in the home at the time, including two small children.
