Youngstown mayor and his son host picnic for Youngstown kids

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – About 80 kids at the Center for Community Empowerment enjoyed some playtime and a picnic on Saturday thanks to Youngstown's mayor and his son.

Mayor Charles Sammarone met with the kids after one of their friends, eight-year-old Bryce Linebaugh, was murdered.

A bullet from a drive-by shooting meant for another person, in another apartment, hit the little boy as he slept in his Maplewood Court apartment.

Sammarone wanted to show the kids people care about them. He says public servants should be there to work with kids and let them know city officials are working to try to keep them safe.

The mayor promised the kids a picnic after meeting with them after the tragic homicide.

City Administrator De Main Kitchen helped set-up and served food during the picnic.

Mayor Sammarone's son, who is one of the owners of Dooney's Downtown Grill & Bar, donated the food, while the Mayor picked up the rest of the tab out of his own pocket.
