Candidate for Ohio Supreme Court promises to restore balance

Updated:

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A candidate for the Ohio Supreme Court is promising to restore balance to the justice system.

Democrat State Senator Mike Skindell campaigned in Youngstown on Monday.

Currently, the Ohio Supreme Court is made up of six Republicans, and one Democrat. That Democrat was appointed by former Governor Ted Strickland.

"I'm running to bring fairness and balance to the court," Skindell said. "So that when the seven justices sit around a conference table, or sit on a bench to either decide what cases they are going to hear, or to decide the decision on those cases, you want a full perspective, you want every Ohioan represented on that court."

A spokesperson for incumbent judge Terrence O'Donnell accuses Skindell of liberal activism and says it has no place in the court.
