Ryan: Obama weak on defense in battleground Ohio

Updated:

LIMA, Ohio (AP) - Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan says President Barack Obama's attempt to cut military spending is putting Americans at risk overseas.

Ryan is kicking off the GOP ticket's 3-day tour of battleground Ohio, campaigning Monday afternoon in the town of Lima (LY'-muh) that's home to a tank plant on the government chopping block.

The Wisconsin congressman says gutting the military and Obama's failure to take strong action in the crises in the Middle East projects weakness abroad and emboldens enemies overseas.

Ryan and Romney will team up Tuesday in Ohio on a bus tour across the swing state. Obama will make appearances in the college towns of Bowling Green and Kent on Wednesday.

Recent polls in Ohio show Obama with a slim lead over Romney.
