Penn St downplays querys about Illini recruiting

Updated:

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State is playing down questions about whether there's lingering bitterness toward Illinois for the way Illini coaches recruited Nittany Lions football players this summer.

Coach Bill O'Brien was asked several times Tuesday about Illinois recruiting. He says he wants his players to concentrate on their Big Ten opener on the road Saturday against the Illini (2-2).

Illinois sent assistant coaches to the State College area to talk to players from Penn State (2-2) about interest in leaving after the NCAA's strict sanctions in July. Illinois wasn't the only school to pursue Penn State players, but it was the only Big Ten school to accept a transfer.
