POLAND, Ohio - Teachers, parents and students filled the auditorium at Poland Seminary High School Wednesday night to hear an independent review of the district's financial situation.

It's information that supports the 5.9 mill levy on the November ballot.

Joel Roscoe, a superintendent at another Ohio school district and a member of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators, explained part of the school funding problem in the State of Ohio.

"In Poland, the value of property is high. People want to live there and that's a good thing. But as value of property goes up, the state gives you less money," Roscoe said.

One of the many questions put before the school board at this public forum is, "If the levy passes, will the things that were cut be put back?" Because the board has to fill a $1.5 million deficit, it can only consider what it will bring back.

Poland's $5.9 mill emergency operating levy is expected to generate $2.2 million dollars annually for about four years.
