Alcohol and speed could be factors in early morning crash in Lawrence County

Updated:

NEW WILMINGTON, Pennsylvania - Excessive speed and alcohol could be factors in a two car crash that occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning in Lawrence County.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 21-year-old Sean Catterson from Maryland smashed into the side of a Pontiac Sunfire as it was turning into a private driveway along East Neshannock Avenue in New Wilmington.

The driver of the Sunfire, 19-year-old Megan Roddy from Mercer, had to be extricated from her car. She was flown to St. Elizabeth Medical Center where she is in serious condition.

Catterson failed a field sobriety test and was transported to a local hospital for blood alcohol testing.

So far in their investigation, police say road rage, excessive speed and alcohol may have all contributed to the crash.
