HUBBARD, Ohio - The birthday of a 9-year-old boy from Trumbull County went from joy to sadness when he lost his wallet containing $210 in birthday money.

It happened at the Hubbard football game last Friday.

The wallet was found at the stadium, but the money was gone.

Hubbard City Police posted the story on the department's Facebook page hoping to get a lead on a suspect, and in return they received an outpouring of support for the young victim.

Sergeant Bill Fisher, with the Hubbard Police Department, says, "Sure enough we had people pouring their heart out; some 57 people. People offering to bring envelopes and some money to help defray his loss because they felt so bad for him and I've actually got seven envelopes on my desk right now for him."

Police say the school has now actually recovered about $140 of the stolen cash from a middle school student.

Hubbard police are now investigating to see if that student had something to do with the theft of the money.
