YOUNGSTOWN , Ohio - Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown stopped by a downtown Youngstown store on Monday to bring attention to his efforts to boost the apparel and textile manufacturing industries.

Brown visited Youngstown Nation a shop on Phelps Street that offers American made items.

He says only 51-percent of the country's federal purchases are products made in the U.S. and his bill would require 100-percent of government apparel spending be made on items made in the U.S.

"If the federal government says all apparel that we buy, and the government buys a lot of clothes, a lot of apparel, if the government says it's got to be 100-percent American made you can bet companies will form and they will be competitive," Brown said.

Brown, who's running for re-election, is proposing the Wear American Act. It's still in committee as he works to find sponsors for the bill.
