Pirates owner Nutting frustrated but optimistic

Updated:

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting is angry about the way his team finished the season but insists the franchise is heading in the right direction.

Nutting told reporters Tuesday there are a "number" of things that have gone right over the last two years. The Pirates had the worst record in baseball in 2010 but were in the playoff chase until mid-September this season.

Nutting added he was upset about his team's collapse. The Pirates were 16 games over .500 in August but still finished with a losing record for the 20th straight season. The owner said it's important to not let the pain of the way the year ended take away from the promising way in which it began. The overall progress of the organization is the main reason he decided not to make sweeping changes.
